<para>This dataset includes vegetation survey data of the BELAIR field campaigns situated within Natura 2000 sites in the LITORA area at the Belgian coastal zone. These surveys comprise plant species inventories conducted at 'Lage Moere van Meetkerke' (part of the Poldercomplex) during the summers of 2013 and 2015, and at the Zwin grasslands (within the Dune areas site) in the summers of 2014 and 2015.</para><para>This dataset comes from INBOVEG, the Flemish vegetation database, also part of the Global Index of Vegetation-plot databases (GIV) and the European Vegetation Archive. This GBIF dataset contains the same data as in INBOVEG: its relevant GIV identification codes are IV2014012815350471 (Lage Moere 2013), IV2015081416383391 (Lage Moere 2015), IV2014090815561332 (Zwin grasslands 2014) and IV2015081416323071 (Zwin grasslands 2015).</para><para>BELAIR responds to BELSPO’s STEREO II component scientific support to “develop Belgian test sites, for which targeted Earth Observation data and other measurement results are collected, on behalf of the Belgian and international research communities, and which may be used as calibration and validation sites for new EO missions, data and products”.</para><para>To allow anyone to use this dataset, we have released the data to the public domain under a Creative Commons Zero waiver (http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/). <purpose><para>The objectives of this BELAIR LITORA project were mainly to determine the potential of high resolution remote sensing for grassland conservation and management. That briefly involves mapping of Natura 2000 and monitoring of habitat quality and effects of daily nature management.</para><para>The LITORA area is situated at the Belgian coastal zone, where the presence of the North Sea has a strong influence on the interaction between the people and their environment. The LITORA study group monitors a variety of environmental processes, including biodiversity at the nature reserves of Zwin and Lage Moere van Meetkerke. During the field campaigns, a large amount of in-situ data are gathered over the different study areas. Special attention went to the timing and standardization of these measurements to be able to extrapolate them in space - via remote sensing techniques -, and time.</para></purpose>
