        <abstract>
            <para>This dataset comprises aquatic vegetation surveys conducted across Flemish watercourses from the summer of 2015 onward. The primary objective is to define the Local Conservation Status (LCS or LSVI in Dutch) of Natura 2000 habitat type 3260 (Water courses of plain to montane levels with the Ranunculion fluitantis and Callitricho-Batrachion vegetation) in Flanders (northern Belgium). The surveys followed a standardized protocol, recording aquatic vegetation and its coverage using a modified Tansley scale across 100-meter segments (Leyssen et al. 2005, Leyssen 2017). Where segment width was recorded, total sampled surface area was calculated and mapped to the Darwin Core (dwc) 'sampleSize' data fields. Although site selection was based on the distribution of the habitat type, typical species for habitat type 3260 were not observed at every location. Presence of the habitat type is noted in the dwc ‘habitat’ data field. Using standardized evaluation criteria (Oosterlynck et al. 2020), the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO) integrates these survey data to evaluate habitat quality and conservation trends in Flanders (Vanden Borre et al. 2025) for periodic reporting under the EU Habitats Directive.</para><para>This dataset comes from INBOVEG, the Flemish vegetation database, also part of the Global Index of Vegetation-plot databases (GIV) and the European Vegetation Archive. This GBIF dataset contains the same data as in INBOVEG: its relevant GIV identification code is IV2016110814174836 (HT3260).</para><para>To allow anyone to use this dataset, we have released the data to the public domain under a Creative Commons Zero waiver (<ulink url="http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"><citetitle>http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/</citetitle></ulink>).
