說明
Waarnemingen.be / observations.be - List of species observed in Belgium is a species checklist dataset published by Natuurpunt and Natagora. Waarnemingen.be (in Dutch, managed by Natuurpunt) and observation.be (in French, managed by Natagora) are the two local Belgian subsites of the global observation.org website. The checklist comprises 20,412 species observed in Belgium. Here, it is published as a standardized Darwin Core Archive and includes for each species: the scientific name, higher classification and stable taxon identifier (in the taxon core), its status (native, introduced) and first and last observation date per region (Flanders, Brussels Capital Region, Wallonia) in Belgium (in the distribution extension).
Only observations which were approved by species specialists based on provided evidence (photograph or sound), or which were approved based on expert judgment by the validating experts were considered for publication (see Swinnen et al. 2022 for the validation procedure). Observers’ data-sharing settings were respected at all times. When the first or last observation from a species in a region was not to be shared, observers were contacted to request an exception for this species list. In the few cases this authorization was not acquired, the next (for the oldest record) or previous (for the most recent record) observation date was considered for publication.
This species list does not represent a complete overview of Belgian biodiversity, only species that are recorded in the citizen science platforms waarnemingen.be and observation.be. Other datasets and checklists have to be considered for the compilation of a complete Belgian overview.

地理涵蓋範圍
This checklist covers all species in Belgium recorded via the citizen science platforms waarnemingen.be and observation.be. Per species, the first and last observation date is given for Belgium as a whole as well as for each of the three regions (Flanders, Wallonia and the Brussels Capital Region). Observations recorded in the Belgian Part of North Sea are assigned to Flanders, so that the sum of the 3 regions equals the distributions in Belgium as a whole.

計畫資料
Imagine a future where dynamically, from year to year, we can track the progression of alien species (AS), identify emerging species, assess their current and future risk and timely inform policy in a seamless data-driven workflow. One that is built on open science and open data infrastructures. By using international biodiversity standards and facilities, we would ensure interoperability, repeatability and sustainability. This would make the process adaptable to future requirements in an evolving IAS policy landscape both locally and internationally. The project Tracking Invasive Alien Species (TrIAS) aims to do this for Belgium. For a full project description, see Vanderhoeven et al. (2017, https://doi.org/10.3897/rio.3.e13414).

研究設計描述 | The project builds on two components: 1) The establishment of a data mobilization framework for alien species data from diverse data sources and 2) the development of data-driven procedures for risk evaluation based on risk modelling, risk mapping and risk assessment. TrIAS uses facilities from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF, http://www.gbif.org), standards from the Biodiversity Information Standards organization (TDWG, http://www.tdwg.org) and expertise from the Open science lab for biodiversity (https://oscibio.inbo.be) to create and facilitate a systematic workflow. Alien species data are gathered from a large set of regional, national and international initiatives, including citizen science data, with a wide taxonomic scope from marine, terrestrial and freshwater environments. Observation data are funnelled in repeatable ways to GBIF. In parallel, a Belgian checklist of alien species is established, benefiting from various taxonomic and project-based checklists foreseen for GBIF publication. |

取樣方法
Waarnemingen.be/observations.be is a citizen science platform allowing to register all species occurring in the wild, mainly focussing on plants, animals and fungi. It is mainly used as a notebook by naturalists to register and document their sightings and the majority of the observations are presence only records (Swinnen et al. 2022). A smaller proportion of the data (c. 10%) is part of a complete species list or transect count.
研究範圍 | This checklist is based on species recorded in the citizen science platforms waarnemingen.be and observations.be. Both platforms were launched in 2008 and although older records are also included, the majority of the records are recent. Search effort for different species groups is highly variable, resulting in an underestimation of the species diversity in a number of less sampled species groups, particularly those whose species are difficult to recognise. A spatial bias is also present, favoring species rich habitats and areas, but with an underrepresentation of species poor agricultural and urban areas. Furthermore, the final result is highly dependent on the expertise of the 160 expert volunteer validators. In case of the absence of a species specialist to evaluate observations, these observations were not validated and hence not included in the species list. In case the active observer is also the only species group expert validator, observations remained unvalidated and were not added to the species list since the evaluation of your own observations is not allowed. |

方法步驟描述:
- Species list and distribution extension was created in pgAdmin. This list was checked by species specialists which removed species which were previously approved, but currently under investigation and not yet changed in the portal. This resulted in a final species list and distribution extension.
- Create a taxon core file (https://rs.gbif.org/core/dwc_taxon_2022-02-02.xml).
- Create a distribution extension file (https://rs.gbif.org/extension/gbif/1.0/distribution_2022-02-02.xml).
- The resulting Darwin Core data files are uploaded to the INBO IPT and documented with metadata.
- The dataset is published and registered with GBIF.

額外的詮釋資料
Acknowledgements | This dataset was published as open data for the TrIAS project (Tracking Invasive Alien Species http://trias-project.be, Vanderhoeven et al. 2017, Groom et al. 2022), with technical support provided by the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO). The subset of introduced species is selected as one of the authoritative sources for the compilation of a unified and reproducible checklist of alien species in Belgium published as the Global Register of Introduced and Invasive Species - Belgium (Desmet et al. 2021). This way, validated newly reported alien species on the waarnemingen.be/observation.be citizen science portal (Swinnen et al. 2018) quickly find their way to the scientific tools supporting alien species policies and management in Belgium. |
