Description
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 2,557 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods
The AlienCSI bioblitz represents a place-based bioblitz of varying duration (but within one weekend) and with a varying number of participants. Target groups include experts as well as the general public, naturalists etc. The activity aims to yield data on target species in the areas and to increase awareness with participants on the alien species and their impacts on nature. It is a targeted event that considers alien species, although native species are also recorded. Observers typically use different smartphone apps for recording, including iNaturalist, Obsmapp, RedEXOS or the Invasive Alien Species Europe app (Joint Research Centre).
| Study Extent | The Bioblitz has a focus on alien species in protected areas across Europe and the Canary Islands. |
|---|---|
| Quality Control | The different organizers had varied quality control systems, see Adriaens et al. 2021 for an overview. |
Method step description:
- The source data for this standardized occurrence dataset is a Google spreadsheet, maintained by the Research Institute of Nature and Forest (INBO) and updated yearly.
- The data was downloaded as a csv file and uploaded to the Github repository (https://github.com/alien-csi/bioblitz-occurrences/tree/main/data/raw).
- We developed a RMarkdown script to document and perform the transformation of the data to Darwin Core.
