Descrição
DVW_Monitoring-aRC4-6-PriorExoten-occurrences is a sampling event and occurrence dataset published by the Research Institute of Nature and Forest (INBO). It is part of the work carried out under the framework agreement between the Flemish Waterway Authority and INBO. Within this specific project monitoring of priority invasive riparian and water plants is performed along navigable waterways according to the protocol of De Meuter (et al., 2012). This dataset thus contains occurrence data from all of the species of the priority list of the Flemish Waterways Authority (Adriaens et al., 2023).
We have released this dataset to the public domain under a Creative Commons Zero waiver. We would appreciate it if you follow the INBO norms for data use (https://www.inbo.be/en/norms-data-use) when using the data. If you have any questions or notice issues regarding this dataset, don't hesitate to contact us via the contact information provided in the metadata or via opendata@inbo.be.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Dados Sobre o Projeto
This project develops a management framework for invasive aquatic plant species along Flemish waterways. Through inventory, prioritization, and innovative monitoring, it supports De Vlaamse Waterweg nv in formulating an effective invasive species policy. The focus is on species with significant ecological or economic impacts, as described in Steen et al. (2024), aiming for more efficient management of these species.

| Descrição da Área de Estudo | Navigable waterways Flanders, Belgium |
| Descrição do Design | Each monitoring campaign targets specific districts, i.e. geographic areas along navigable waterways, as delineated by the Flemish Waterways Authority. Priority invasive riparian and aquatic plant species are surveyed using a standardized protocol developed by Van de Meuter et al. (2012). Data collection is carried out by trained fieldworkers from INBO and upon request of the Flemish Waterways Authority. Observations are recorded in the field using the ArcGIS Field Maps mobile application. |
O pessoal envolvido no projeto:
Métodos de Amostragem
Data are collected by visual inspection of river banks for the presence of priority species. Contiguous growth patches are recorded as a line, while individual plants are recorded as points.
| Área de Estudo | This dataset covers priority invasive riparian and aquatic plant species along navigable waterways managed by the Flemish Waterways Authority in Flanders (Belgium). Monitoring was conducted in districts 4, 5 and 6 of the Central Region, based on a standardized protocol. The goal is to support effective, area-based management by mapping current distributions and informing targeted control efforts, including a comparison of visual and automated detection methods. |
|---|---|
| Controle de Qualidade | Data are collected using a predefined sampling protocol (De Meuter et al., 2012). |
Descrição dos passos do método:
- Fieldwork is planned and performed by INBO according Van de Meuter (et al. 2012).
- Data are collected in the field by trained fieldworkers, using the predefined sampling protocol.
- A custom script is written to map the original data from to Darwin Core as event core with occurrence extension.
- The Darwin Core views are connected to the INBO IPT and documented with metadata.
- The dataset is published and registered with GBIF.
