Descrição

Luronium natans habitats in Flanders, Belgium is a sampling event dataset published by the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO). This dataset contains all non-invasive aquatic plants collected during a Luronium natans survey. Here it is published as a standardized Darwin Core Archive and includes for each sampling event an eventID, date, location and sampling protocol (in the event core) and for each occurrence an occurrenceID, the abundance of recorded individuals, status (present/absent) and scientific name (in the occurrence extension). Issues with the dataset can be reported at https://github.com/inbo/data-publication/issues. All the recorded invasive plants in these habitats are published in this sister dataset: https://doi.org/10.15468/tar6w7. We have released this dataset under a Creative Commons Attribution data licence. We would appreciate it if you follow the GBIF citation guidelines (https://www.gbif.org/citation-guidelines ) when using the data. If you have any questions regarding this dataset, don't hesitate to contact us via the contact information provided in the metadata.

Event (core)

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Dados Sobre o Projeto

A survey of Luronium natans was carried out in Flanders to determine the habitat requirements of this rare species. This species is protected by the Natura 2000 Habitats Directive (Annex 2). This research will continue to monitor the distribution and quality of this species for the purposes of Article 17 reporting of the EU Habitats Directive.

Descrição da Área de Estudo Flanders, Belgium
Descrição do Design As Luronium natans has a restricted distribution, monitoring is carried out on all known populations in Flanders. Also, some recently disappeared sites and some locations with supposed presence of Luronium natans are included. Data collection is based on a field protocol (https://inbo.github.io/protocols/2023.06/index.html) and includes data collection to determine the local conservation status of Luronium natans (Lommaert et al., 2020).

Métodos de Amostragem

Vegetation recording is carried out during june-september for each site on different levels (https://inbo.github.io/protocols/2023.06/index.html): * waterbody level: description of the waterbody, presence of macrophyte taxa in the waterbody (samplingProtocol = tally sheet) * population of Luronium natans: presence or absence of Luronium natans (samplingProtocol = site description) * permanent quadrant of 1 square meter in an abundant patch of Luronium natans. Only recorded in 2008 & 2009; taxon occurrence using Braun Blanquet scale (samplingProtocol = vegetation record)

Área de Estudo Luronium natans is an amphibic species, present in both lentic and lotic waterbodies. Its actual range is restricted to the north-eastern part of Flanders.
Controle de Qualidade Data are collected by professionals ensuring the quality of the records.

Descrição dos passos do método:

  1. Data are collected in the field by specialized personnel.
  2. A custom SQL view is created in the NBN database to map the original data to Darwin Core as an event core and occurrence extension.
  3. The Darwin Core views are connected to the INBO IPT and documented with metadata.
  4. The dataset is published and registered with GBIF.
